About Anhart Foundation

Anhart Foundation

Anhart Foundation is a registered Canadian charity providing innovative supportive housing services in Vancouver and community-based development services in areas of extreme poverty, internationally.

The mission of the Anhart Foundation is to support persons in their quest to find natural and sustainable pathways of wellness. The vision of the Foundation is improved supportive housing capacity in Vancouver and increased community-based development services in Haiti and sub-Saharan Africa.

The roots of the Anhart Foundation originate in 2000 when Hart and Anita Molthagen purchased the Jubilee Rooms on Main Street in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver. This 79 unit single room occupancy building was completely restored by the Molthagens and offered to the Community Builders Group as operators in 2002. In 2013, the title of the Jubilee was transferred to the Anhart Foundation in an effort to ensure enduring ownership of the building by the Downtown Eastside community.

Beyond its housing efforts in Vancouver, the Anhart Foundation supports international development in Haiti and sub-Saharan Africa through Pay it Forward and Sustainable Communities Initiatives programs.

Anhart Foundation values respect for all persons, natural sustainability, open learning and a sociological modeling of emergence (emergence is the phenomenon which explains the self-organization of groups through random interactions, feedback loops and pattern recognition). The Foundation supports social environments which allow participants to use heuristic methods (discovery through trial and error) to achieve their goals.

The administrative office of the Anhart Foundation is located at Canada Place in Vancouver and serves partnered organizations in Canada and internationally. Anhart Foundation is the beneficiary of pro bono services offered by a network of entrepreneurs, community professionals and experienced volunteers. Capital funds for new self-sustaining efforts are provided by private and public investors and enterprising non-profit businesses.
