Community Builders Group (CBG) is a registered Canadian charity providing innovative supportive housing services in Vancouver and community-based development services in areas of extreme poverty, internationally.
The mission of the Community Builders Group is to support persons in their quest to find natural and sustainable pathways of wellness. The vision of the Group is improved supportive housing capacity in Greater Vancouver and increased community-based development services in Haiti and sub-Saharan Africa.
Community Builders Group was formed in 1983 and has since pioneered bottom-up community development in Canada, sub-Saharan African, El Salvador, Haiti and India. In 2002, Community Builders Group began to pioneer privately-funded, supportive housing in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver. After 11 years of service, the operation of CBG was transferred to a second generation of innovators.
Currently, Community Builders Group operates supportive housing initiatives at Vogue Rooms on Granville, Powell Rooms on Powell and the Yale Hotel. CBG has developed partnerships with private investors, professional social service providers, the Government of Canada, the Province of British Columbia and the City of Vancouver.
Community Builders Group values respect for all persons, natural sustainability, open learning and a sociological modeling of emergence (emergence is the phenomenon which explains the self-organization of groups through random interactions, feedback loops and pattern recognition). The Group supports social environments which allow participants to use heuristic methods (discovery through trial and error) to achieve their goals.
The administrative office of the Community Builders Group is located at Canada Place in Vancouver and serves partnered organizations in Canada and internationally. CBG is the beneficiary of pro bono services offered by a network of entrepreneurs, community professionals and experienced volunteers.
