Working on-site, the Health Care Aide, under the direction of Management, provides health services to residents. The role involves observing and documenting residents' health condition and environment, reporting significant and unsafe observations, and offering support and guidance.
Functions & Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Site Manager, the Health Care Aide is responsible for:
- Assisting residents with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene (bathing, grooming, shaving, hair, and nail care), dressing, assistance with personal equipment and appliances, transferring, and toileting.
- Assisting clients in completing wound dressings when needed.
- Monitoring residents by observing their health condition and environment, including functional ability, living arrangement, and family supports. Documenting behavioral, physical, and cognitive changes following standard procedures or specific directions. Reporting significant and unsafe observations to the delegate.
- Providing input and feedback in the care planning process by participating in team reports and care conferences. Discussing and recommending changes to the treatment plan and collaborating with the multidisciplinary team. Encouraging clients to attend appointments and medical follow-ups in coordination with the care team.
- Assisting residents in meeting their elimination needs by observing urinary and bowel functions. Administering enemas and suppositories as directed by the care plan.
- Assisting in meeting the nutritional needs of residents by ensuring they are positioned and prepared for meal times, serving meals and nourishments, feeding clients who require assistance, and monitoring food and fluid intake.
- Performing tasks such as administering medication, catheter care, and applying TED stockings under the Transfer of Function guidelines for clients in specific situations for which training has been provided.
- Maintaining a safe environment for residents by checking the operation of equipment to ensure safe working order and reporting incident/equipment problems or general safety concerns to management.
- Being aware of community resources and agencies and making this information available to clients.
- Attending and participating in staff development programs, team meetings, and other meetings as required.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
Education, Training & Experience:
- A minimum of one (1) year of post-secondary education from a recognized Care Aid Program or an equivalent.
- One year of recent related work experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Certificates in Narcan Training, First Aid, and NVCI.
- Criminal record check.
