Community Pen

Community Pen is a biweekly creative writing workshop at Naomi Place for all Community Builders residents. This is our first creative writing program, inspired by groups at Carnegie, the Kettle and Hope in Shadows. Led by our Communications Manager, who is also a published fiction writer and instructor, the workshops invite participants to get creative with fun, funny and sometimes personal prompts, like:

“Incorporate the line ‘He was what you’d call a hopeless romantic’ into a story.”

“You’re a sea captain who’s just discovered a magical, uninhabited island. What do you see?”

“Write a poem about not belonging”

The group creates a welcoming space to share, connect, drink coffee and grow as writers.

"I have been living here since 2016. The Metson has provided me with a safe and secure place to live. I have privacy and the freedom to come and go as I please. I also enjoy the meals that are provided when possible. The staff are there if you need any help."
