This past month, Community Builders, in collaboration with Vancouver Coastal Health, officially opened Burrard Respite, a 14-bed housing facility for individuals with acute health needs.
Clients at Burrard will be referred to us from hospitals, treatment facilities and other housing sites, and typically require more hands-on care and supervision. They’re served by our Integrated Health program, which includes 24/7 staffing, on-site clinical nursing and a range of Wellness services aimed at helping them stabilize and take next steps in their health and housing journey.
As project managers of the site renovation, Community Builders was able to influence and shape the way this space looked and functioned, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. Burrard evokes a feeling of comfort, contentment, and well-being (hygge, the Scandinavians would call it). We are incredibly proud of the team members that made this project possible, and we extend a warm welcome to the new staff and first-ever clients.
"Burrard Respite prevents highly vulnerable individuals from falling through the cracks," says Danielle Elkerton, Associate Director of Integrative Health. "I am incredibly grateful that we are adding another safe space for people to feel supported and cared for."
