As June comes to a close, we want to take a moment to recognize Canadian Multiculturalism Day, observed on June 27, and reflect on what it means within our organization and communities.
Community Builders is, in many ways, a reflection of modern Canada. Our staff and residents come from a wide range of cultures, backgrounds, languages and lived experiences. That diversity is not simply something we celebrate. It is one of our greatest strengths.
Canada often describes itself as a multicultural nation, but multiculturalism is more than a characteristic. It’s an ongoing project. It requires us to create space for difference, to remain curious about perspectives beyond our own and to work together toward shared goals.
This spirit is especially visible across Vancouver right now as people from every corner of the world gather around the excitement of FIFA and fill our streets with pride, energy and no shortage of chanting. It is a reminder that people can come together across cultures, languages and histories while still finding common ground.
At Community Builders, that common ground is the belief that everyone deserves safety, dignity and a place to call home.
As conversations about our city and country continue, we are reminded that significant challenges remain. We see the impacts of the housing crisis, the toxic drug emergency and gaps in mental health, recovery and addiction supports every day. We know there is still much work to do to ensure everyone has access to the resources they need to thrive. That includes continued investment in the full housing continuum, from shelter to supportive housing to affordable housing.
As we approach Canada Day, we’re taking pride in the communities we're building while also recognizing the ongoing work of reconciliation, inclusion and improving quality of life for all people who call this country home.
